Bay FC NWSL forward Racheal Kundananji has been nominated for the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Women’s Player of the Year award. This prestigious recognition honors the top female footballers representing African-based national teams. Kundananji's nomination comes after an impressive 2025 season, where she has made significant contributions to both her club and national team. She is among ten elite African players nominated, including NWSL stars Barbra Banda and Temwa Chawinga.
In the current season, Kundananji has scored four goals and provided four assists for Bay FC NWSL. Notably, she became the club's all-time leading goal scorer on September 21 against Gotham FC, marking her ninth career goal with the team. Her performance has been remarkable, as she has recorded three scoring contributions in just five matches since mid-September, showcasing her status as one of the league's most dangerous players.
Representing Zambia on the international stage, Kundananji has also excelled, netting five goals in 2025, including three during her team's journey to the WAFCON quarterfinals. She played a crucial role in Zambia's victories, scoring and assisting in key matches. As a seasoned player for the Copper Queens, she has accumulated 29 international goals since her debut in 2018 and has participated in significant tournaments, including the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
Currently, Kundananji is with the Zambian national team for their October qualifiers against Namibia. Following this international break, Bay FC NWSL will face Racing Louisville FC on Decision Day, where they will aim for a strong finish to the regular season. The match is crucial for playoff positioning and will be broadcast live on NWSL+, the league's streaming platform.
